She waits patiently as I casually drive myself a little crazier.
Anxiously idle I’ll continue to waste her time drawing no conclusions.
I know it frustrates her,
but I’ll ask her to stay as a lack of anything better to do.
When morning comes,
she’ll see I’m frantic in my own mind,
tick-tocking the hours away as a cynic considers.
So I’ll try to be honest when I tell her these things never have a way of working themselves out.
Only, she simply smiles when I say I’m sorry,
With tears in her eyes she grabs my hand when I say I don’t understand.
I know she wants leave when I retreat to that self-loathing little place in my head.
Aging will be a slow decay and we came this far together.
She says she’s beginning to see the cracks in the surface.
I kind of believe her,
but she stays strong me for me.
And in the end she said it’s all worth reaching for.
